Emma Jean Eddins (Etienne)

Emma Jean (Eddins) Etienne

November 30, 1950 ~ January 12, 2025 74 Years Old

Emma Jean Etienne, a beacon of unwavering kindness and love, departed from this world on January 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Born on November 30, 1950, in Memphis, TN, Emma's journey through life was marked by an infectious joy and an open heart that drew people to her from all walks of life.

Emma's early years in Memphis laid the foundation for a life characterized by care and service to others. She carried the lessons learned from her parents, the late Thomas Eddins Jr. and Clara M. (Thomas) Hyde, into every aspect of her life. Emma's surviving siblings, Earnest Eddins, Mary (Cedric) Moodie, Gloria Eddins, Thomas (Bither) Eddins III, Jeanice (Scott) Jenkins, and Peggy Catchings, will continue to carry on her memory and cherish the caring role she played in their lives. She was preceded in death by her siblings Robert Barnes, Lorenzo Barnes, Larry Eddins, and Woodrow Hyde, who are now reunited with her in spirit. Emma was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

A proud graduate of Washington High School, Emma's educational journey was just the beginning of her lifelong commitment to nurturing growth and potential in others. Her career as a childcare provider was not merely a job but a calling. Emma poured her soul into every child she cared for, instilling in them the values of kindness and respect that she held so dear.

Emma's own children, Justin and Andrea Etienne, knew firsthand the power of their mother’s love. Their home was always filled with lots of hugs and kisses. She raised them with an unwavering belief in the power of kindness, to do unto others as you would have them do to you.

Emma was known for her delicious homemade dinner rolls and sweet potato pies, love of Motown music, and a good ol’ fashion western. Her philosophy was simple yet profound: put God first and always lead with kindness. This was evident in every interaction; in how much she carried the Lord with her every day and her ability to care for others. She never met a stranger she couldn’t talk to for hours.

Memorial services for Emma will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Kingdom Christian Center Church, 2010 Elwood Ave, South Bend, IN 46628. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services at the church. Palmer Funeral Home – West Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
