Daniel Virgil Cavinder

Daniel Virgil Cavinder, 71, of Hesperia, CA passed away Saturday, October 29, 2022 at home surrounded by his loved ones.

Born October 2, 1951 in South Bend he was the son of Virgil and Barbara Cavinder who preceded him in death. Daniel attended Washington High School graduating in 1970. In 1976 Daniel became an ordained minister through the First Brethren Church and later started Community Gospel Church as its Pastor. He went on several mission trips to Haiti where he worked with Pastor John Beaucejeor spreading God's word. He worked for his father’s business Twin City Insulation and later started Clean Air Systems Inc. where he worked until retirement.

Daniel is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 31 years Carroll Cavinder of Hesperia, CA. Surviving are his children Danny (Heather) Cavinder, Jodie Cavinder, Tenelle Cadogan, Rebekah (Don) Walker. His grandchildren Daimon, Emily, Tyler, Cameron, Austin, Kaden and Aidan. And his great grandson Brantley. He is also survived by his siblings Jane, Rick (Kathy) and Tim.

Known by many as Dr Smokey he had a reputation as a BBQ pit master. Upon retirement he started Dr Smokey's BBQ catering in California. He was an avid rock hound taking many trips into the desert digging and collecting gems. He was a lifelong Notre Dame Football fan. His family will forever miss their Pops and his sense of humor, smile, laugh and the special birthday cards that he never missed a year sending to his kids and grandkids. His grandson Aidan's love of trains was encouraged by his Pop Pop and he will miss building and running them together. Dr Smokey was a one in a million man who cherished his visits and talks on the phone with his family and he was quick to remind you "Everything is gonna be alright."

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life December 3, 2022 at PNA, 55969 Tulip Rd, New Carlisle starting at 3 pm.
