Richard A. Luczkowski

SOUTH BEND, IN - Richard A. Luczkowski, 91, a native of South Bend, Indiana, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at home with his family, under the care of Center for Hospice and his family. He was born on February 2, 1927 in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Frank and Louise (Bonek) Luczkowski. Richard attended St. Casimir Grade School and was a graduate of Washington High School Class of 1945. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force, 45 Air Squadron Repair at the rank of Corporal. He received the WWII Victory Ribbon and the WWII Germany Occupation Medal.

On June 23, 1951 in St. Casimir Catholic Church, Richard married Rita Switalski. She preceded him in death on January 3, 2014. He is survived by one son, Kenneth R. (Kim) Luczkowski of Goshen, Indiana; one daughter, Mary Louise Luczkowski of Detroit, Michigan; three grandchildren, Tara (Adam Dilley) Majewski, Paul (Allyson) and Jacob (Kate) Luczkowski; one great-grandchild, Hayden Sherman; one brother-in-law, Joseph Bykowski; nieces and nephews, Dennis (Jerrilyn) Bykowski, Paul (Deb) Bykowski, Kay (Paul) Mach, John (Nancy) Bykowski, Kathy (Jim) Laskowski, Tom (Carolyn) Luczkowski, Jeanette (Chirs) Sayer, Margie Rogers, Mike (Elizabeth) Luczkowski, and John (Jill) Luczkowski; and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond and Norbert Luczkowski; and sisters-in-law, Harriet Luczkowski and Patricia Bykowski.

He was a loving husband and an engaged father. He was a volunteer coach for Ken's baseball and Mary's softball at Maurice Matthys Little League. He especially enjoyed being a grandfather. Richard was an avid golfer and Notre Dame sports fan. He was a member of the American Legion Post 284 and a 66-year member of St. Casimir Parish Married Men's Club. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, IN. A combined parish and Married Men's Club Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 in St. Casimir Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his niece, Kay Mach for helping care for Richard.
