James L. Johnson Sr.

SOUTH BEND James L. Johnson Sr., 53, of Chicago, formerly of South Bend, died at 9:24 p.m. Wednesday in Cook County Hospital, Chicago, after being struck by car earlier on the Dan Ryan Expressway. Mr. Johnson was a self-employed cabinetmaker. He was born Jan. 7, 1940, in Oxford, Miss., and lived in South Bend for 35 years.

On April 30, 1966, in Chicago, he married Etta Smith. She survives, with a daughter, Michelle Bryson of Chicago; two sons, James Jr. of South Bend and Anthony of Wichita, Kan.; six, grandchildren; and a brother, Jack South Bend.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Alford's Mortuary
