Dennis R. Nyari

SOUTH BEND - Dennis R. "Denny" Nyari, 72, passed away at 8:00 am Saturday, October 3, 2015 in his residence. Dennis was born on March 18, 1943 in South Bend to Louis and Dorothy (Zales) Nyari.

He was the owner of D & N Racing and started racing in 1963 and finished in 1997 as one of the winningest drivers in the country with an estimated 600 plus feature wins. His proudest win was the Redbud 300 ASA race at Anderson Speedway in 1973. He had multiple track championships at South Bend, Plymouth, New Paris, Mottville and Kalamazoo. Denny also was a tester for many years for Hoosier Tire and recorded race wins in many states and Canada.

On November 4, 1961 he married the former Sue Banfi who survives along with his mother, Dorothy Nyari of South Bend, two daughters, Tamara Nyari of South Bend and Shari (Nino) Vega of Granger, four grandchildren, Haley (Dylan) Ebersole, Katlyn Carbiener, Vincent Vega and Victoria Vega, three great-grandchildren, Brayden, Hollyn and Adalynn, sister-in-law, Linda (Michael) Ratkay, brother-in-law, Edward (Jackie) Banfi, uncle Edward (Valerie) Nyari, aunt Helen & Pat Nyari, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Hoosier Tire for all the good years, Ken Sczechowski, Greg Early, Dr. Afyouni and his friends in Crystal Falls, MI.

A Celebration of Life Open House will take place on Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 3 to 8 pm in the American Legion Post 357. Cremation has taken place; his final resting place will be in Crystal Falls, MI. Zahoran Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
