Joseph Wierschem

Age 80, of Minneapolis, died September 9, 2022, at his home. Joe was born January 13, 1943, in Redbud, IL, to Hilda Wierschem (Palow) and Armin Wierschem, who served in England during WWII. Joe resided in South Bend, IN and was a graduate of South Bend Washington, Class of 1960. After school Joe enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1961 where he earned the rank of Corporal, before he was a marksman, and played trombone in the Marine Corp Band and was honorably discharged after six years of service. Joe graduated from the University of Southern Illinois with a Masters Degree in Business. He lived in Aurora, IL and worked at First National Bank of Chicago and moved to Minneapolis and retired from AT&T.

Joe is survived by his sister, Mary (Gene) Yarbrough; nephew, Michael Yarbrough; niece, Tami (Aric) Bryant; cousins, Mary, Roy and Russell; great nieces and nephews; Aaron and Matthew Yarbrough, Carly and Cameron Bryant. Joe also leaves behind his dear friends Christopher Haugabrook, Dennis Hoffman and Denise Berg.

Joe loved singing in the choir at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis. He was a talented piano player and had a lifelong passion for all things trains. Joe enjoyed dining with friends and the occasional scotch and cigar. He also enjoyed passionate debate no matter how controversial. Joe was devoted to his catholic faith.

Mass of Christian Burial 12:00 Noon Friday March 16th with visitation beginning at 11:00am at the Basilica of St. Mary, Hennepin Avenue at 17th St., Minneapolis. Memorials preferred to The Basilica of St. Mary.

Samuel Levee (1962)

I'll always remember Richard Baker (clarinet) and Joe's impromptu playing of Lassus Trombone in the old Washington High band room.  It still brings a smile to my face.
