Mary Ann Celmer

Mary Ann Celmer, 82 years old, peacefully passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022, surrounded by her family at her son’s residence in South Bend. Mary Ann was born February 2, 1940 in South Bend, to the late Charles and Louise (Berta) Szabo. She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah (Debbie) Celmer; brother, Charles Szabo Jr. and sister, Betty Jane Groppe.

Left to cherish the memory of Mary Ann (Boo Boo to her grandchildren) is her loving husband of 64 years, Timothy; their children, Timothy (Jeanine) Celmer, Tara (Joe) Celmer; grandchildren, Clayton, MaryLee, Matthew, Madelin, Timothy, and Valente; great-grandchildren, Eliza, Maevyn, Amelia, Piper, Gabriel, and Thaddeus; sisters, Joan Solloway and Karen McKinnies; and brother, Johnny Szabo.

Mary Ann was a lifelong resident of South Bend. She worked as a bartender and manager at Frank's Place for nearly 20 years. Mary Ann was an extremely caring person and was always willing to help others. She volunteered for the Red Cross for a number of years. She loved being around people and her beloved dog, Marty. Above all, she loved her family, especially her children. Mary Ann will be dearly missed.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Catholic Church, South Bend. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00pm-8:00pm Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00pm.

Donations in honor of Mary Ann Celmer may be made to St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Catholic Church, 415 N Brookfield St, South Bend, IN 46628. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
