Rita (Kubasik) Kane

Rita Kane, 81 years old, passed away on October 30, 2024 at Healthwin Specialized Care in South Bend, where she resided for the last month. Previously she resided at Holy Cross Village in South Bend and also Woodland Terrace in Niles, MI.
Rita was born on October 31, 1942 in South Bend, IN to the late Frank and Eleanor (Wawrzyniak) Kubasik. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Thomas Kane; and her brother, Robert Kubasik.
Rita is survived by her son, Paul (Mary) Kane of Niles, MI; and her daughter, Pam (John) Hostetler of South Bend; three grandchildren, Steven (Rosanne) Hostetler of South Bend, Erik (Rebecca) Kane of Niles, MI, and Scott (Elaina) Kane of Goshen, IN. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Carter Hostetler, Arianna Hostetler, Jack Kane, Dylan Kane, and Everett Kane; as well as her best friend and sister-in-law, Annette Kubasik.
Rita retired from the Michigan City Area Schools after 26 years of service as a 4th grade teacher. After she retired, she moved to Palm Coast, FL and lived there for 21 years before returning back just five years ago to be closer to family. She loved to go on vacations to Colorado and Alaska to go fishing. She enjoyed doing yard work and eating at Volcano’s Pizza in South Bend.
Visitation for Rita Kane will be held from 12:00pm to 2:00pm on Friday, November 1, 2024 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S Mayflower Rd, South Bend. A Catholic Funeral Service will be celebrated at 2:00pm immediately following the visitation at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Gardens in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Rita Kane may be made out to Corpus Christi Catholic Church or School, 2822 Corpus Christi Dr, South Bend, IN 46628.
