Michigan City - Karen Sue Wherley, 78, of Michigan City, passed away unexpectedly at 5:46 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2021 in her home. She was born December 14, 1942, in Laurel, Maryland, to Ralph Thurston and Erma Mildred (Jones) Keyser.
Karen retired from Walmart as a cashier after 22 years. She worked for Fannie Farmer and was an Avon Lady for several years. Karen enjoyed crafts, gardening and watching the hummingbirds. She was a loving wife, great stay-at-home mother, and devoted grandmother and great grandmother.
On September 2, 1961, in South Bend, Indiana, she married Dean Ray Wherley, who preceded her in death January 15, 2020.
Also preceding in death were her parents; infant sister, Patty Keyser; infant brother, Ralph Keyser Jr.; and one brother, Steve Keyser.
Surviving are her children, Tracy Wherley Brockman of Michigan City and Daniel (Michelle) Wherley of La Porte; one sister, Nancy (David) Leiso; two brothers, Gary (Cindy) Keyser and David (Julie) Keyser; four grandchildren, Brandee (Jack) Robbins, Nicholus Wilke, Sara and Kevin Wherley; two great grandchildren, Deziray and Nadia; special companion, Bob Golec, and several loving nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, June 11, 2021 at Pine Lake Cemetery, 1367 Pine Lake Ave., La Porte, with Pastor Warren G. Smith Sr. officiating. Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, La Porte, (219) 362-3100 is caring for the arrangements.
