Philip Charles Hilton
December 6, 1942 ~ April 21, 2025
Philip Charles Hilton, age 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Mishawaka, Indiana on April 21, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born on December 6, 1942, in Pana, Illinois, Phil was raised in South Bend, Indiana by his parents, Robert and Antoinette (Ullrick) Scovil. He attended Harrison Elementary School and graduated from Washington High School in South Bend.
At the age of 17, Phil began a distinguished career in the United States Air Force. Over the course of 20 years—10 of which were spent in foreign service—he served with honor and dedication across the globe. His assignments took him to Vietnam, Japan, Germany, Amsterdam, and numerous locations throughout the United States including Idaho, Texas, Indiana, and Alaska. He retired in 1980 with the rank of Technical Sergeant.
While stationed overseas, Phil met and married Eiko Lee at the Tokyo Embassy on April 15, 1965. Together they shared a remarkable 60-year journey filled with love and partnership.
Following his military retirement, Phil transitioned into civilian life as an administrator at 1st Source Bank. He brought the same commitment and integrity to his second career that he had shown during his military service. After 25 years of dedicated work, he retired from the bank in 2008.
Phil was a man who embraced life fully. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and league bowling—activities that reflected his love for camaraderie and the outdoors. Later in life, he continued to give back to his community by volunteering as an associate member of the St. Joseph Young Men's Society where he helped organize events and support local initiatives.
Those who knew Phil will remember him for his booming laughter and larger-than-life presence. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and valued; friends and colleagues alike were drawn to his warmth and generosity of spirit. His joy was contagious, and he found deep fulfillment in ensuring those around him were happy.
Phil is survived by his beloved wife Eiko Hilton; daughters Kathleen Hilton (Damon Flint) and Kimberly Hilton (Chris Faust); and sisters Marybeth Kozak and Suzanne Scovil.
In accordance with Phil’s wishes, no services are planned at this time. He will be entombed at a later date at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend.
