Delphine Rita (Szczechowski) Levesque

Delphine Rita Levesque, passed peacefully with family by her side on September 7, 2024, after bravely battling a long illness. She was born in South Bend, Indiana, on January 16, 1939, the daughter of Sylvester and Lillian Szczechowski.

After attending St. Adalbert Parochial School and graduating from Washington High School in 1957, Delphine entered the convent of the Felician Sisters in June of 1957. In 1969 she chose to leave the religious life and center her faith and energies on her profession as a teacher in the Detroit, Michigan area where in 1971 she met her dashingly handsome soul mate and husband, Robert. Del and Bob were married on August 21, 1971, and proudly celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2021.

She retired from teaching in 2005 after 30 years in Catholic parochial school systems from Coloma, MI, to Lockport, NY, and Pelham, AL. Delphine was a musician who played the accordion, guitar and piano, and taught music and theater to her grade school students.

With a passion for writing and gardening, she was a member of the Write Touch writers' group in Lockport.

Her greatest delight above all was to spend time with her grandchildren, Christian, Camdyn, Norah and Nathan whom she cherished deeply.

Delphine is survived, and her legacy will be celebrated by her husband Robert, son David (Karen) Levesque, and daughter Jennifer (Frank) Mergl. She is also survived by two sisters, Mary Ann Lacay, Louise Meier, and a brother Bill (Kathy) Sechowski of South Bend, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the DENGLER, ROBERTS, PERNA FUNERAL HOME, 8630 Transit Rd., East Amherst, NY. Prayers will be offered on Saturday at 9:30 AM at the Funeral home followed by A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's RC Church, 6919 Transit Rd. East Amherst NY. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hands Healing Heroes of Niagara Falls, NY, or Jonah Cancer Center - Sarcoma Research at ECMC which were close to Del's heart.
