Kozakiewicz Dies Of Crash Injuries

David R. (Kozy) Kozakiewicz, 36, of 52602 Patricia La., died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Hospital of head injuries suffered in a one car accident June 15 on Portage Hwy., just north of BeIlkay Dr., according to Dr. Stanley Koscielski, St. Joseph County coroner.

Investigating officers said Kozakiewicz had been driving north on Portage shortly after 3 a.m. when he lost control of his car. The car veered off the road on the right side, swerved back across the pavement and hit a tree on the left side of the road. Kozakiewicz was a truck driver for Simon Bros. for 12 years.

Born on March 8, 1938, in South Bend, he had lived here all his life. On Feb. 11, 1961, he married Judith A. Rozek, who survives with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kozakiewicz Sr. of South Bend, a brother, Joseph Jr. of South Bend, and three sisters, Mrs. Christine Kaminski, Mrs. Delores Thomas and Mrs. Shirley Karascon, all of South Bend.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Kaniewski and Sons funeral Home. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Rev. Joseph P. Horvath, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

He was a member of Local 364. Teamsters Union; Lodge 83, PNA; Post 50, American Legion, and the Elbel Golf Club. A wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home
