Lorraine Evelyn Bergerson, March 5, 1939–March 8, 2026, Auburn, IN-Lorraine Evelyn Bergerson, 87, formerly of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on March 8, 2026. She was born March 5, 1939, to John and Evelyn (Przybysz) Gapinski in South Bend. They preceded her in death.
She graduated from Washington High School in 1957 and married Vernon Bergerson on June 28, 1959. He preceded her in death on February 6, 2019, after 59 years of marriage. Lorraine worked at S.S. Kresge Company and The Associates for several years before becoming a homemaker and raising two daughters, Michele and Lori. Later on, Lorraine returned to the workforce at several retail companies and eventually worked at Dainty Maid Bake Shop downtown for sixteen years, where she loved talking to customers.
Lorraine enjoyed reading, soaking up the sunshine, decorating for every holiday, and hosting parties and cookouts. She especially loved Christmas and always made it special with homemade pastries and color-coded wrapping paper so everyone could save the best gift for last. In her younger years, she was part of several bowling teams, was an active member of St. Paul's Memorial United Methodist Church, and was a skilled seamstress who made her children's clothes by hand.
Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Michele Wolff (Steven) and Lori Jaworski (Aloysius "Andy"); grandchildren, Christopher Wolff, Allison Wolff-Patel (Vishal), and Kevin Jaworski; sister-in-law, Mary Bucher (Fred); and cousins, nephews, and a niece. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dolores Resil (Russ Daily).
Visitation for Lorraine will be held 11:30am-1:00pm, with a Funeral Service beginning at 1:00pm on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend, Indiana. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
