Betty Lou Kaufman (Cornelis) passed away this Sunday, December 21, 2025 at 11:23am, surrounded by her family.
Betty was born in South Bend, Indiana on April 6, 1945 to her parents Charles and Norma (Higginbotham) Kaufman. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her sister Elizabeth “Toots” (Leo) Eufemi and her brother Gerald “Red” (Judy) Kaufman.
Betty Lou graduated from Washington High School in 1963.
On January 30, 1965 Betty married Donald Cornelis Sr., he survives along with their two children Donnie (Tammy Kehoe) Cornelis Jr and Anjonette (Bob) Pezan, two grandchildren Tanner (Katie) Cornelis and Emily (Timon) Petrilla, two great-grandchildren Lyla Cornelis and Sophie Cornelis, and her brother Charles (Renee) Kaufman.
During her professional career Betty worked for Oliver/White Farm and retired from the South Bend Community School Corporation where she worked in the payroll department. Betty greatly enjoyed gardening, shopping, her great-grandchildren, and celebrating Christmas.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday January 10, 2026 at 2:00pm at the Fire Fighters Hall, 4025 Lincolnway West, South Bend, IN 46628. Gathering will begin at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice.
