Dennis "Butch" Jacobsen
Dennis (Butch) Jacobsen of Mesa Arizona, passed away in Hospice care after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
Butch was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on February 17, 1945, to the late Erwin and Lucille (“Sally” Schintgen) Jacobsen. He was a graduate of Washington High School (1963) in South Bend, Indiana. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was discharged, after serving three years and three months, as Lance Corporal on October 7, 1966.
On May 20, 1967, Butch married Elizabeth (Betty) Bartholomew. He is survived by his wife of 57 years and daughters Kim (Paul) Carlson, Mesa, AZ, Becky (Patrick) Wolter, Chandler, AZ and Cindy (Kevin) Keilholtz, Mesa, AZ.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Morgan (Nate) Hickinbotham, Mesa, Tatum and Jordan Carlson, Mesa, Zachary and Jacob Wolter, Chandler, Hailee (Logan) Gunnell, Mesa, Erick Eckstein, U.S. Navy. There are also seven great grandchildren. Butch is also survived by three siblings. Margie (Thomas) Gleeson, South Bend, IN, Cheryl (Wayne) Holmer Sr., South Bend, IN, and Terry (Maggie) Jacobsen, Niles, MI.
Butch moved his family to Arizona in August, 1984, thinking there would be more job opportunities. He worked as a HVAC technician. He retired from the Arizona Salt River Project Power Company in March, 2007. Butch loved being with his family. There was always an activity to attend. He also enjoyed sports, including fishing and playing cards with his buddies.
A service with military honors will be given at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 23449 Edison Road, South Bend, IN, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 20, 2024.
