James “Jim” Michael Dembinski, 81 years old, passed away at his home on Friday, October 16, 2026.
James was born on February 04, 1945 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Benedict and Jeanette A. (Kuberski) Dembinski. On June 20, 1970 , James married the love of his life, Kathleen L. Hakes with whom he spent 56 wonderful years.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, John Dembinski, nephew; Chad Dembinski, brothers-in-law; Tim Hakes and Kenny Hakes.
Left to cherish their memories, James is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen Dembinski; siblings; Ray (Pat) Dembinski, Janet "Cookie" (Michael) Terry, Niece; Christina (Boumediene) Mestari, nephews; Tim (Beth) Denbinski, Todd (Chantel) Dembinski, Jeremy Fabiano ,Sisters-in-Law; Donna Dembinski-Scott, Patti (Bill) White, brothers-in-Law; Randy (Sue) , Richard (Sonia) Hakes, Tom Hakes, great nephews; Kyle Karn, Jacob Karn, Brandon Dembinski, Andy Holston, Brady Dembinski, great niece; Marissa, great-great nephew; Daniel Miller, great-great niece; Katya Karn, as well as many nieces and nephews in Wisconsin on his wife's side.
Jim graduated from South Bend Washington High School in 1963. James "Jim" dedicated 32 years of service to the South Bend Fire Department. Following his retirement from the department he worked several years at Bubb's funeral home, and was Security officer at Notre Dame.
Jim coached girls’ basketball at Holy Family, St. Joe, Washington, and Riley High Schools throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and watching NASCAR. He loved going to the races with his Great-Great Nephew, Daniel.
Above all he loved spending time with his family. He especially loved hosting family gatherings in his home, bringing his loved ones together. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife and his loving family.
Friends and family will be received Friday, October 23, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph funeral home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. South Bend, IN 46619. A funeral service will follow at 1:00pm.
