Patricia Ann Pozgay (Skodinski) - Class Of 1967 VIEW PROFILE

Patricia Ann Pozgay (Skodinski)

Patricia Ann Skodinski, age 73, of South Bend, passed away after a brave battle with lung cancer.  She died in the early morning hours on Saturday, July 9, 2022, in her home in the presence of her family, surrounded by their love.

Pat was born on December 11, 1948, to the late Otto Pozgay and Dorothy (Cassells) Pozgay.  She is survived by her husband of almost forty-nine years, Phil Skodinski, and her two daughters, Sara (Blair) DeCraene and Sally Skodinski; her two adorable grandchildren, Keagan and Sawyer DeCraene; her sister, Cathy (Ron) Disanto; her brothers, Larry (Marilyn) Pozgay and Lee (Kathy) Pozgay; her nephews, Jeffrey Highfield, Eric Pozgay, and Andrew Highfield; and Sally’s dog Trace (her granddoggy).

Pat graduated from Washington High School in 1967, and Indiana University Bloomington in 1971.  Pat and Phil met in 1966 while working at the Toll Road Plaza, and married on August 18, 1973, making Phil the luckiest guy in the world.

Pat was proud of her 35-year career in the insurance business, where she worked for Liberty Mutual, American States, Waterfield, and Skye.  She was a member of the National Association of Insurance Women, holding various offices, and awarded Insurance Member of the Year, Insurance Professional of the Year, and Thirty-Year Member.  She later managed Phil’s law office for 12 years, helping Gary keep Phil on task.

Pat was a loyal fan of the Indiana Hoosiers.  She enjoyed encouraging Sara and Sally in all their pursuits and athletic activities.  She was their #1 fan in life, which continued with Keagan and Sawyer.  She found special pleasure by her companionship with Sally’s dog, Trace, with whom she “dog sat” many afternoons.  She was especially proud of her neighbors, Justice and Lleyton, who held a special place in her heart.  They were so kind and loving to her, and she appreciated them and their parents, Scott and Amy White.

Pat was well known for her Christmas cookies made with Sally and Phil’s help and enjoyed distributing them to family and friends.

An active member of Faith United Methodist church, she served for years as Chairperson of Worship and Missions committees, and was a generous supporter of many charities, including Broadway’s Food Pantry, the Crop Walk, and Superbowl of Caring.  She was an advocate for the youth of the church, honoring their graduations and accomplishments.  She had a passion for church camp, as she knew how impactful it could be in the spiritual growth of youth.

Whatever good in life Phil has done, she was the impetus and driving force.  Pat will be remembered for her warm heart, her devotion to Phil, Sara and Sally, and Keagan, Sawyer, and Trace.  Her family and friends supported Pat in her determination to make the most of every day.  She never gave up – never surrendered, embraced her eternal home in heaven.  Pat blessed our lives and will forever be loved and missed every day.

Pat was grateful to the staff of Beacon Health System Cancer Center and to the Center for Hospice.
