ELKHART - Ronald Allen Mitts, 64, of Pomona Street, Elkhart, passed away on September 4, 2012, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, following an illness.
He was born June 22, 1948, in South Bend, to Carl and Loretta (Cebulski) Mitts, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his former wife, April (Wood) Mitts, in 2009, and a stepdaughter, Kristina Wood, in 2000. On August 23, 2010, he married the former Carol Moses. She survives with one daughter, Betsy Mitts of Mishawaka; and three stepchildren, Richard Wood of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Alicia (Jeff) Jodtkey of Elkhart and Angie Waddell of Ft. Wayne. Also surviving are three step-grandchildren, and a sister, Cheryl (Paul) Pluta of South Bend. Ronnie was a 1967 graduate of Washington High School. After high school he served in the United States Navy. He was employed at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for 37 years before retiring in 2009 as Supervisor of Environmental Services. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 360 in Mishawaka, and a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Ronnie was an avid Notre Dame fan and proudly ushered at Notre Dame Stadium for several years. He also volunteered his time for many years at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, on Friday, September 7th, at 11:00 a.m. Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 7:00 pm today, September 6th, at Bubb's Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main St., Mishawaka. Friends will also be received at the church for one hour prior to the Mass.

Graveside services will immediately follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
