Christine C. Cortier, 66, of New Carlisle, Indiana passed away at 2:26 a.m. Sunday, September 20, 2015 in her home.

Christine was born on August 14, 1949, in South Bend to Richard and Wanda (Utterback) Cortier, and was a lifelong area resident.

She taught many different classes at New Prairie School Corporation for 41 years before retiring in March 2012.

Christine is survived by her two sisters, Carol Whiteman of New Carlisle and Denise Warner of Venice, FL; one brother, Bill (Claudine) Cortier of Bristol, IN; many beloved nieces and nephews, Ian Whiteman, Holli Hixenbaugh, Josi Hixenbaugh, Zacc Hixenbaugh, Melanie (Christopher Orr) Cortier, Christopher (Sia) Cortier, Valerie Cortier and Danielle Cortier; many great-nieces and nephews, Kharina Mathew, Aidan Whiteman, Jasper Orr, Eli Whiteman, Triston Hixenbaugh, Sam Orr, Lealand Qvick, Ellington Cortier, Liam Whiteman, Bryson Hixenbaugh, Desmond Cortier, and Lilly Whiteman; and by her neighbor sister, Sparkle Jeffries.

Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Wanda (Utterback) Cortier.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 and also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, IN, where a parish rosary will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 24, 2015 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church with Rev. Paul McCarthy officiating.

Burial will follow in New Carlisle Cemetery.

Christine had many accomplishments over her career. She was a beloved teacher and coach in the New Prairie School Corporation. She was very instrumental in the development of girls' sports within the school corporation. Chris had a big heart she loved kids, animals and flowers. She was feisty, competitive and stubborn, but was also compassionate and had a great sense of humor. She would never quit on anyone or anything.
