Mr. Willie Ray Agnew passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at his home in South Bend, Indiana. He was 75 years old.

He was born on May 17, 1947 in Osceola, Arkansas to the union of the late Ray and the late Helen Agnew.

Willie grew up on the Lake Side of South Bend and attended Harrison School. He graduated in 1967 from Washington High School. In January of 1971 Willie was inducted into the U.S. Army and completed his Tour of Duty with an Honorably Discharged on January 9, 1973. He was an Expert Marksman 16 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Following the completion of his military obligation he returned to South Bend and secured employment at the Bendix Corporation where he worked various machine operator positions from 1975 until 2002 when he retired.

Willie was a quiet person who had a small circle of friends and close family who he spent time with - especially his brother Bobby. Willie was often seen sitting in his front yard and he always waved at everyone who drove by. Prior to becoming disabled he enjoyed riding his bike and taking walks around the Lake Side.

Willie leaves to cherish his memory, three daughters, Shevella (Terrence) Banks and Stacy Outlaw, all of South Bend and Tamika Agnew of Terry, Mississippi, seven grandchildren, Terrence Jr., Tyler, Sierra, Sequoia, Tahlequah, Cheyenne and Airress; four sisters, Bonnie Jean (Jessie) Gathright and Betty Campbell all of South Bend; Dr. Rosemary (Douglas) Purnell of Santa Ana, California and Ethel Agnew of Marietta, Georgia; four brothers, Roy Agnew of Bloomington, Indiana, Melvin Agnew and Robert "Bobby" Agnew, of South Bend and Anthony (Renee) Agnew of Phoenix, Arizona; uncles, Charles Agnew, Jr. of Tupelo, Mississippi and Bishop Willie D. Standifer of Gary, Indiana; a sister-in-law, Shirley Agnew along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Willie was also preceded in death by two brothers, L.C. "Noonie" Agnew and Joe Nathan Agnew; two sisters, Estella Agnew-Martin and Sandra Agnew; brothers-in-law, Howard Martin and Charles Campbell; nieces, Whitney Dorsey, Crystal Agnew and Tomara Agnew. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A memorial service for Brother Willie will be held on Thursday September 8, 2022 at 1 PM in the chapel of Alford’s Mortuary Inc. 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana 46601. Arrangements have been entrusted with Alford’s Mortuary Inc
