Maria Viramontes de Valdez

CHICAGO - Maria A. Viramontes de Valdez, 62, of Chicago, took her last breath Tuesday, October 2, 2017, surrounded by her children, brothers, sisters, family, and many loved ones. Maria was born August 15, 1955, in Valparaiso Zacatecas, Mexico, to Ines and Damiana (Castaneda) Viramontes.
Maria lived in South Bend and Chicago after migrating from Mexico 43 years ago. In 1975, in Chicago, IL, she married Juan Antonio Valdez, who preceded her in death on August 3, 2016. Along with her husband, Maria owned and operated the Valdez Family Hand Car Wash. She loved to spend time with and cook for her family, was known for her laugh, and loved to crochet, color, and travel.
Along with her mother, Maria is survived by daughters, Yanira (Mike) and Nellida Valdez, both of Chicago, IL; sons, David A. (Brenda) Valdez and Daniel (Mercedes) Valdez, Sr., both of South Bend; and grandchildren, Anthony, Sophie, Natalie, and Daniel Jr. She is also survived by sisters, Antonia, Socorro, and Ma. Del Refugio; and brothers, Mario, Pedro, Lorenzo, and Jose; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Saint Casimir Catholic Church, 1308 Dunham St., South Bend, IN 46619. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 24980 IN-2, South Bend, IN 46619. Friends may visit with the family from 4-9 PM Friday. October 6, 2017, at Palmer Funeral Home, Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, 46614. A family led Rosary will be recited at 8:30 PM during the visitation.
