John Solmos Obituary
John A. Solmos, 79, passed away at 11:00pm Monday, July 10, 2017. John was born on January 11, 1938 in South Bend to John and Theresa (Gruber) Solmos. He graduated from Kansas State University with a masters degree in education and he lettered in 3 sports and was a skilled quarterback. After graduation, at the age of 25, he played minor league baseball. John retired as a teacher and coach from Washington High School and was inducted into the Washington High School Athletics Hall of Fame. John loved watching all sports especially college football, basketball and the Chicago Cubs, he also enjoyed a good round of golf. But most of all he loved his dear family, especially his 3 grandchildren who were close to his heart. On June 19, 1965 he married the former Marie L. Schreier who survives along with a daughter Jacqueline Solmos of Oak Park, IL, a son Jon (Susan) Solmos of Chesterton, IN, 3 grandchildren Brandon, Eva, and Sophia and a sister Janice Jarvie of Denver, CO and many nieces and nephews who he dearly loved. John was preceded in death by an infant daughter Jennifer and a sister Patricia Ann DeWolf. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ansari and his caring staff and the wonderful nurses with the Center for Hospice. According to Johns wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 4-6pm in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Monday July 17, 2017 at Our Lady of Hungary Church. Burial of his cremated remains will follow in Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hungary Church, or St. Jude Childrens Hospital.
