SOUTH BEND - Alice Dhaeze, 94, of South Bend, passed away on Friday May 19, 2017, at her daughter's home. She was born on April 14, 1923, in South Bend, to the late Renee and Julia DeCook. On April 15, 1944, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she married Emiel A. Dhaeze, who preceded her in death in 2005. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Klepper in 1999, three sisters, Anne, Arlene and Nessa and three brothers, Raymond, Albert and Andrew DeCook. Alice survived by her daughter, Becky (Jon) Giszewski; two grandchildren, Sarah and Nathan (Dawn) Giszewski; three great-grandchildren, Cameron Storin, Hailey and Ethan Giszewski; and two sisters, Audrey Janowczk and Toni Youts,; and sister-in-law, Sophie DeCook, all of South Bend. Mrs. Dhaeze was a graduate of Washington High School, a member of Holy Family Church and Harvest House. She retiring in 1986 from South Bend Controls and had previously worked for Torrington. Family and grandchildren were her precious gifts. Activities she enjoyed were attending German dances at the German Club and the Dunk, every other weekend with friends and family. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday May 25, 2017 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday May 26, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
