SOUTH BEND - Rosemary Mochel passed away at 12:30 pm Monday, May 15, 2017, on her 85th birthday, in her home after an extended illness.
Rosemary was born on May 15, 1932, to the late Paul and Mary (Nemeth) Szabo in South Bend. Rosemary graduated from Washington High School in 1950. She got her first job at St. Joseph Bank and Trust Company. From there she worked at Manpower, then at Farm Credit Services at the South Bend Field Office. She retired from there after 27 years of service.
Mrs. Mochel was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and active in the Altar-Rosary, the Altar & Rosary Society of St. Jude Church, the Legion of Mary, The Blue Army, The Area Conference of Catholic Women and St. Mary of the Assumption and Our Lady of Hungary Church, Canasta Club, St. Mary's Lunch Club and the Golden Girls.
Rosemary is survived by her son, Dean (Barbara) Mochel; grandson, Chad (Corinne) Freel; and great-grandchildren, Brianna, Hannah, Bentley, Xavier and Alex; as well as her dogs, Scout and Ranger. A grandson, Jason Alan, preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, May 19, 2017, in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 3-8 Thursday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pet Refuge, 2300 W. 6th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544; or to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
