Condolences

SOUTH BEND - Delphine M. Plencner, 83, originally of South Bend, IN died from Alzheimer's Disease on Wednesday, January 18 at SEM Haven Health and Residential Care Center in Milford, OH.

Delphine Cwidak was born to Walter and Mary Cwidak on June 2, 1933. She was married on October 15, 1955 to Raymond Plencner, who preceded her in death in 2005. She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Anita and Bob Armstrong of Columbus, OH, Bonita and Mark Rice of Loveland, OH, Mary Diane and Mark Deysher of Colorado Springs, CO, and Mark and Susan Plencner of Plymouth, MI. She also leaves 17 grandchildren, their spouses, 2 great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Alice Cleppe & Mary Jane Manuszak.

Delphine grew up in St. Adalbert's parish and graduated from Washington High School in South Bend in 1951. She attended nursing school at Memorial Hospital, graduating at the top of her class in 1954, and became a Registered Nurse. She was a wife, mom, homemaker and nurse throughout the years prior to her retirement in 1990 as an occupational health nurse with Bayer Corporation. After retirement, she enjoyed being “Grammie”, working in her garden, serving at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger, and living life with Ray at Diamond Lake in Cassopolis, MI. They also enjoyed winter months in Orange Beach, AL and trips to visit children and grandchildren whenever possible.

Visitation will be from 4 - 7 pm Sunday, January 22, 2017 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr, South Bend, IN, with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Monday, January 23, 2017 at Little Flower Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. A brief visitation will be held from 9:30 until the 10:30 funeral Mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend, IN.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to SEM (Southeastern Ecumenical Ministry) Haven Health and Residential Care Center of Milford, OH (www.semhaven.org), where Delphine was loved and cared for in the final months of her journey.

Delphine, “Mom”, “Grammie”, “Gramma Del” leaves a legacy of compassionate care both personally and professionally. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, the twinkle in her eye and little wink, her sweet smile, gift of hospitality, and love of children. Those who were touched by her life are thankful for the fingerprints she leaves.
