Washington 1979 Lywanna Jean (Thorpe) Smith

SOUTH BEND - Lywanna Jean Smith passed away on Friday, July 1, at age 54.

She was born in South Bend, IN, on September 20, 1961, to Curry and Edna Thorpe and was a lifelong South Bend resident. She was a 1979 graduate of Washington H.S. and worked as a nurse's aide for various area nursing homes until her health began to fail her.

She loved sports, dancing, fishing, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Lywanna was a member of New Christian Tabernacle Ministries.

Lywanna is survived by her husband, Guy Smith, who was her companion for 27 years; parents, Curry and Edna Thorpe; and brothers, Scottie, Tyrone and Curry Thorpe, Jr., all of South Bend.

One brother, James Lamonte Thorpe, preceded her in death.

The funeral service is 12 noon Friday, July 8, at Cobb Funeral Home, 3525 S. Michigan St., with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until service time.

Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
