Jacqueline Denise Maxwell (Mitchell) - Class Of 1970

Jacqueline Denise Maxwell (Mitchell)

Washington 1970 Jacqueline Denise (Maxwell) Mitchell

Aug. 26, 1952 - June 8, 2016

SOUTH BEND - Jacqueline Denise Mitchell was born to Charles and Florida Maxwell on August 26, 1952.

As a student of academia, Jackie graduated with honors from Washington High School in 1970. Jackie completed her undergrad at Wilberforce University. Serving as a primary school teacher in Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio, Pinellas County, Florida, and Elkhart, Indiana, for a span of 25 years, Jackie was instrumental in the lives of many youths throughout her career, being honored as Teacher of the Year twice during her tenure with Elkhart's Roosevelt Elementary School. Upon leaving the classroom, Jackie would continue her passion of teaching and nurturing our youth by serving five years as the director of St. James AME Daycare, Elkhart, IN, and two years at the former Learning Twig Daycare Center, South Bend, IN.

Never letting grass grow under her feet (lol), Jackie uprooted to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1998, where she would decide to change careers and wet her feet within real estate until an unexpected accident rendered her disabled, resulting in retirement from the workforce altogether.

Entering eternal rest before Jackie were paternal grandparents, Dr. Gilbert & Mrs. Virginia Maxwell; maternal grandparents, Rev. Peter James & Mrs. Willie Reed-Williams; father, Mr. Charles Maxwell; and siblings, Gwendolyn and Bobby Maxwell.

Loved ones left to cherish Jackie's memory include her mother, Florida Maxwell; former husband, Michael Mitchell, Sr.; children, Schalisa (Rev. Terry) Tate and Michael (Tanisha) Mitchell II; five grandchildren, Miquaela, Florida, Christian, MiKyra and Michael, Mitchell III; two great-grandchildren, Karson and Journee; and five siblings, Charles Ronnie, Val Dez (Dinah), Bruce Maxwell, Carolyn Armstrong and Rita (Vernon) Turner. Jackie also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she valued greatly.

The family of Jackie Mitchell would like to thank Healthwin Specialized Care, SJRMC, Our Lady of Hungary School, and IU Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis, IN, for their compassion and/or care during Jackie's illness.
