SOUTH BEND - Richard P. Hodowaniec, 67, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born on June 30, 1948, in Augsburg, Germany, to Michael and Marta Hodowaniec. At the age of four he and his family moved to the United States where they eventually made their home in South Bend, IN, and remained lifelong residents. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, who he married on July 3, 1971. Richard is also survived by two sons, Richard R. Hodowaniec (Casey) and Christopher R. Hodowaniec (Michelle); and four grandchildren, Alexis, Blake, Rayna and Trace, all of South Bend. Other survivors include his sister, Krystyna Bogucki (Ronald) of South Bend, and two brothers John Hodowaniec (Janet), and Ted Hodowaneic (Julie), also both of South Bend. Along with his father, Richard was preceded in death by one brother, Chester Hodowaniec. Richard attended Washington High School and IU University South Bend and worked as a foreman at Raco where he retired. He spent his retirement working with the disabled for a short time, but mostly enjoyed spending all the time he could with his grandchildren. Richard was a great husband, father and Papo and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the Center for Hospice for all their support given during this difficult time. Visitation will be on Friday, April 15, 2016, from 2-8 P.M in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, Indiana 46628. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 16, at 10 a.m in the Kaniewski Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
