John Vecs Jr., 81, of Trippel Drive, Mishawaka, passed away at 3:05 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2001, in St. Joseph Community Hospital.
Mr. Vecs retired after 29 years as an air traffic controller and was a World War II Navy Aviator Veteran. John graduated from Washington High School and attended Purdue University on a football scholarship. He was born on October 1 , 19i 9, in South Bend to John and Margaret Vecs. They preceded him in death along with a brother, Stephen Vecs.
Surviving are two daughters, Margie (J.C.) Currier of Blythe, Calif., and Nancy Vecs of Mishawaka; a son, John S. (Mary Lou) Vecs of Everett, WA; four grandchildren, Jamie Currier, Clay Currier, Jeremy Vecs and Jessica Vecs; a sister, Margaret Deranek of South Bend; 2 nieces, Susan Deranek and Judy Deranek; and a nephew, Ronald Deranek.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2001 in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today in the funeral home where a rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Northern Indiana Chapter, 425 N.
