Ralph A. Farthing

NEW CARLISLE - Ralph Alan Farthing, 62, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away Monday, March 9, 2009, in his home. Ralph was born to Agnes and Ralph Farthing in Centralia, IL, on March 4, 1947.

Ralph is survived by his wife Ginny whom he married on November 17, 1997, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Ginny was the love of Ralph's life. Ralph has two children, Wendy (Chris) Whitmore of Indianapolis and Rachel Shepherd of Indianapolis; three beautiful grandchildren, Nicholas and Megan Whitmore, and Madison Shepherd. He has five stepchildren, Mark (Pam) Sutherland of Hebron, Karen (Kammy) Sutherland of Palm Springs, California, Mari (John) Markos of Porter, Frank (Renee) Sutherland of Mishawaka and Kathleen Sutherland of DeMotte; 10 step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, John (Annette) Farthing, Ed (Sharon) Farthing and Tom (Laura) Farthing; and a sister, Pat (Tim) Pinter.

Ralph enjoyed traveling with Ginny and family. He was an avid golfer and loved going to Myrtle Beach with his golfing buddies. Ralph enjoyed playing guitar at home and at family functions. Ralph was a diehard Cubs fan and never missed a game. Whether they won or lost, he was their number one fan! Ralph served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965-1969. Closely following in 1975, Ralph opened "Ralph's Bakery" in New Carlisle which he owned and operated for 31 years. Ralph was the type of person who never asked for much but gave all. He had a big heart and touched so many lives that he had come in contact with. Ralph will be dearly missed and always loved.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 22, at 2 PM in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where friends may visit from 1-2 PM before the service. (Please note that all times are EDT, South Bend time). To send condolences online, please visit Kaniewski.com.
