SOUTH BEND - David E. Plonka, 68, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 4, 2013, in Memorial Hospital. David was born May 27, 1944, in South Bend, to the late Julius and Irene (Zakrzewski) Plonka. David was also preceded in death by his grandson, Anthony Lyvers; brother, Delvin Plonka; and sister-in-law, Natalie Plonka.
David is survived by his devoted children, Scott Plonka of Mishawaka, Leslie Plonka of Mishawaka, Richard (Tracey) Plonka of Granger, Steven (Nina) Plonka of Boca Raton, FL, and Lori (David) Hayes of South Bend; former wife, Laura Plonka; his grandchildren, Valerie Lyvers, Alexandra Plonka, Carson Plonka, Kate Plonka, Lily Plonka-Blain, Payton Hayes and Blaise Hayes; son-in-law, Jeff Blain; brother, Julius Plonka; and many nieces and nephews.
A proud west side resident and graduate of Washington High School,
David retired from the Bendix/Allied Signal Corporation after 32 dedicated years of service. In his lifetime David enjoyed traveling, fishing the Great Lakes, bowling, ice skating, sports, and family gatherings. David had a great love for his pets. But most of all David loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. David was a kind, loving and devoted father and grandfather. His memory will continue to live on in our hearts; we will forever miss him.
Visitation for David will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 10, 2013. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
