SOUTH BEND Benedict M. Banicki, 69, of South Camden Street, died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday in St Josephs Medical Center after an illness.

Mr. Banicki retired in 1982 from the former Torrington Co. He was bom March 29, 1923, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident. On Aug. 22, 1942, in South Bend, he married Alfreda F. Cencelewski. She survives with two sons, Benedict J. and Dennis P both of South Bend; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

He was a veteran of World War II and member of American Legion Pulaski Post 357 and Harvest House of St Adalbert's Catholic Church. .

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Gardens Mausoleum of St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday in St Joseph Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 3 p.m. by Harvest House and a combined rosary at 7:30 p.m. by the parish and church choir. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association
