Eugene B.Pejza, 82, of St. Paul’s Retirement Community, South Bend, formerly of Peachtree Lane, South Bend, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2004, in St.Paul’s. Eugene was born on June 26, 1922, in South Bend, to the late Bert J.and Catherine (Piechowicz) Pejza and was a lifelong area resident.

On August 24, 1946, in South Bend, he married Dorothy Szymanowski, who preceded him in death on November 15, 1973.On May 20, 1977, in South Bend, he married Patricia Schoppe, who survives. Eugene is also survived by his four children, Sharon (James) Kapsa of South Bend, Becky (Tim) Link of Darnestown, Maryland, Debra (Dan) Degucz of Granger, Indiana and Kenneth (Barbara) Pejza of Margate, Florida;two step children, Kathy Molnar of Portland, Oregon and Jeffrey (Peggy) Schoppe of Granger; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;a sister, Dolores O’Brien of Cincinnati, Ohio and two brothers, Norbert and Ervin Pejza, both of South Bend.

Mr.Pejza was the owner and operator of Pejza’s Tavern, South Bend, for 40 years, before retiring in 1985.He was a life member of St.Casimir Catholic Church, South Bend, where he was in the Usher’s Club, the Holy Name Society and the Senior Citizens Club, a member of the Polish-American Businessmen’s and Professional Association Secretary and the Mruk’s Club Treasurer.Eugene was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, a life member of the American Legion, Pulaski Post #357 and a member of the Army & Navy Union #146.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM Sunday, January 2, 2005, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N.Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish rosary will recited at 4 PM Sunday.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Monday, January 3, 2005, in St.Casimir Catholic Church, South Bend, with burial to follow in St.Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Area office, 10872 Queen Rd., Plymouth, IN 46563
