Chester T. Smiecinski

1920-2006

Mr. Chester T. Smiecinski, 85, of Michigan City, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at 9:38 a.m. at Saint Anthony Memorial Hospital, Michigan City. He was born July 1, 1920, in South Bend to Joseph and Angela (Lemanski) Smiencinski. 

Mr. Smiecinski was retired as a route salesman for Kreamo Bakery, LaPorte. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, where he was an usher; St. Joseph Young Men's Society; and American Legion Skwiat Post 451. He was a former member of Moose 980 Family Center and Elks Lodge 432. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

On May 18, 1949, in Michigan City, he married Evelyn Gorski, who survives. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Melissa and Jason Sands; one great-granddaughter; his daughter-in-law, Lucia "Lucy" Sands of Michigan City; and one brother, Joseph of South Bend.

One son, Barry Sands; and one sister, Julie Wieciorek, preceded him in death.

The funeral Mass will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Michigan City, with Rev. Walter Ciesla officiating. Friends may call at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., where the St. Joseph Young Men's Society will recite the rosary at 7 p.m. and American Legion Skwiat Post 451 will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, with American Legion Skwiat Post 451 conducting full military services.
