SOUTH BEND - Loretta Szymanski, 89, passed away at 5:50 am on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 in Sanctuary at St. Joseph. Loretta was born on February 29, 1920 in South Bend to the late William and Antonia (Jozwiak) Szymanski. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Benedict; and by her sister, Celeste Powicki.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Ronald Szymanski of Jackson, MI, James Szymanski of Franklin, WI, Barbara Peterich of New Carlisle, IN, Jacqueline Simms of Granger, and Marcia Szymanski of Mishawaka.

Loretta graduated from Washington High School. She worked at Roach Appleton and then was a seamstress at Wilson Brothers for 10 years. Loretta was a parishioner of St. Casimir Catholic Church and a member of the Legion of Mary, Rosary Sodality and PNA Club. She enjoyed taking trips to Chicago, IL and eating at Isbell's Restaurant. She loved getting together with friends and meeting at Portofino's, and Al's Anchor Inn. She enjoyed dancing and watching soap operas on TV. Thank you to Staff at Sanctuary of St. Joseph especially Emily, Sharon and Lillie, and Vickie formally of the staff at Sanctuary of St. Joseph; Pam and Crystal of Real Services and to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.

Family and friends may gather in St. Casimir Catholic Church from 9:00 am to 10:00 am today, December 12, 2009 for visitation and a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am this morning in the church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. For those who are unable to attend the Funeral Mass, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net
