DANIEL J. VAN LAKE

SOUTH BEND - Daniel J. Van Lake, age 79, residing in Spring Hill, FL, died on Sunday, October 28, 2012. Daniel was born on August 22, 1933, in South Bend, IN, to the late Alphous and Mary Van Lake.

He graduated from Washington High School in 1953.

Daniel served in the U.S. Navy. Daniel retired from Wards Bakery Co. after 19 years of service and then worked for the School District for 10 years. Daniel was predeceased by three brothers, Lawrence, Morris and Ray; two sisters, Marge and Dorothy. He married Patricia Weisel and they had two sons, Dennis (Susie) Van Lake of Kewanna, IN, and Mark (Caroline) Van Lake of Covington, LA.

He then on June 14, 1997, married Frances Amber, who survives. Daniel also has two stepsons, Robert Donat of Largo, FL, and Brad (Greta) Donat of Franklin, TN; 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandsons, 1 step-granddaughter and loving family.

Daniel has been an avid pigeon fancier all his life; he got the desire to fly pigeons from his father and at the age of thirteen acquired his own. He retired to Florida in order to fly them and won many awards.
