EDWARD M. JASINSKI

Jan. 30, 1924 - June 15, 2009
SOUTH BEND - Edward M. Jasinski, 85, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 11:21 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, in Hospice House. Edward was born on January 30, 1924, in South Bend, IN, to John T. and Cecelia (Berdych) Jasinski. He retired on January 30, 1989, from the South Bend Tribune where he was employed for 32 years in the Display Advertising Department. Edward had also been an employee of the Studebaker Corporation for 10 years.

Although he left Washington High School to join the Army in World War II, he later completed his high school diploma through night school while working full-time and raising his family. He was very proud of his military service in the United States Army Artillery Division during W.W. II.

On October 23, 1945, in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, he married Rose Bleich, who survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Joyce (Chris) Darling of Bristol, IN; two sons, Ken (Diana) Jasinski of New Carlisle, IN, and Edward J. (Debbie) Jasinski of Edwardsburg, MI; five grandchildren, Jason Jasinski of Indianapolis, IN, Jane (Matt) Kaiser of Granger, IN, Jeff Jasinski of Granger, IN, Ali Darling of Chicago, IL, and Tyler Darling of Bolingbrook, IL; and a cousin, Miranda Waszak of Chicago, IL.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Otolski and Hedwig Jasinski; and two brothers, Felix and Joseph Jasinski.

Ed was adored for his always positive outlook, and his warm, outgoing, and friendly personality. He had a wonderful sense of humor that he generously shared with others. Ed was an avid fan of a variety of music including light classical, opera, show tunes and big band. He sang for many years with the Studebaker Male Chorus and later with the South Bend Male Chorus. As a member of the South Bend Press Club he enjoyed singing and performing in their annual Hoaxes Shows. After retiring from the South Bend Tribune, Edward volunteered with the South Bend Chamber of Commerce, conducting tours of South Bend and the University of Notre Dame. He was selected "Tour Guide of the Year" by the Chamber of Commerce in 1994. Edward was multiliterate. He spoke Polish, German, and was fluent in conversational terminology in many other languages. He enjoyed travel, giving tours, history, Notre Dame football, Studebaker's, and political discussions. He was even more proud that all five of his grandchildren graduated from college, one with three degrees.

Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Friday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N.
