RICHARD L. CALVIN

SOUTH BEND - Richard Lee Calvin, 63, went peacefully to heaven at 7:30 am on Monday, July 9, 2012, in his residence surrounded by his family. Richard was born December 28, 1948, in South Bend, to Robert D. and Virginia (Burtsfield) Calvin Sr. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Robert D. Calvin Sr.; and a brother, Robert D. Calvin Jr. On April 1, 1972, in South Bend, Richard married Karen "Kay" Bauer, who survives along with children, Kanetha (Robert) Speck, James (Lisa) Calvin, Henry (Lisa) Brunner; grandchildren, Trenton, Mason, Connor, Elijah, Gabby, Kirsten, Kassy and Arielle; mother, Virginia; sister, Linda (Robert) Choquette; sister-in-law, Joan Calvin; many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Richard attended Washington High School. Richard honorably served his country in the United State Navy in 1968, serving on the USS Independence in the Mediterranean until 1970.

Richard was a truck driver for over 28 years, retired from Preston Trucking in 1999, and was a loyal Teamster of "Local 364." He was also employed by Inland Distributing and National Standard. Richard was a fighter all of his life and his wife, children, grandchildren, mother, sisters, family and friends are very proud of him. He will be greatly missed by his furry friends, Charlie, Louie, Blackmore and Fred.

Visitation will be 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm today, July 12, 2012, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, July 13, 2012, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's name in care of First Source Bank to help the family with burial expenses. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
