JOAN (REBICS) BARKLEY
July 8, 1935 - July 12, 2013
SOUTH BEND - Joan Barkley, 78, residing in South Bend, passed away at 11:00 am Friday, July 12, 2013, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. She was born in South Bend on July 8, 1935, to the late Stephen and Josephine (Szewczyk) Rebics, and remained a lifelong area resident.
Joan was formerly employed at Casimir Supermarket and was then co-owner and operator of Barkley's Super before working at Al's Supermarket, Thrifty Mart and Zee Medical. She retired from St. Vincent de Paul.
Joan graduated from Washington High School and formerly attended Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church.
Surviving Joan are her daughter, Carrie Barkley of South Bend; sons, Ron, Brian and Dave (Justina) Barkley, all of South Bend, and Michael (Michelle) Barkley of Plymouth; eight grandchildren, Keith, Jason, Amy, Amber, Bryce, Sarah, Emma and Aiden; one great-grandson, Talon; her sister, Barbara Smurr of Granger; and many friends.
Memorial services for Joan will be at 7:00 pm Monday, July 15, 2013, in the Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. Msgr. Michael Heintz of St. Matthew Cathedral will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 - 7:00 pm in the funeral home prior to services.
