SOUTH BEND - Dennis James Perry, 58, passed away on Sunday morning, May 10, 2009, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born July 13, 1950, in Indianapolis, Dennis was the eldest son of L. James and Ruth E. Perry.

When Dennis was two years old, the family moved to South Bend, Indiana, where he attended the local schools.

He graduated from South Bend Washington High School and then later from Indiana State University with a degree in vocal music.

Upon finishing college he returned to Washington H.S. to teach vocal music - his dream job. After several years of teaching in the South Bend Community School Corporation, Dennis returned to Indiana State University to work in the admissions department, ending his career there as the Associate Director of Admissions. While at ISU he earned a master's degree in counseling. In his "spare time" Dennis helped direct, design sets and sew costumes for many high school and community theater productions. During the summer months he also worked extensively with Hoosier Boys' State, a program that provides young men the opportunity to learn about the political and governmental processes in our democratic society.

Dennis is survived by his mother (Ruth); and three brothers, David (Robin) Perry, Donald Perry and Dwain Perry; three nephews, David Perry II, Jonathan Perry and Justin Perry; as well as other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, L. James Perry.
