Barbara Jean (Johnson) Lindsey

South Bend - Mrs. Barbara Jean Lindsey 86, of South Bend, IN found rest on Tuesday October 26, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born May 8, 1935 in Caruthersville, Missouri to Sylvester and Alberta Johnson. She received her formal education from Washington High School in South Bend, IN. Barbara Jean was smart, dedicated and loved helping people. She would follow her calling and began a career in the Surgical Department at Memorial Hospital, where she would retired after 40 years of dedicated service. Mrs. Barbara was a long-time member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor William W. Kirk and his successor Pastor/Teacher Andre' McGhee. On September 10th 1955, Barbara married Mr. Freddie Lee Lindsey, they were blessed with 60 years of marriage, raising their children and keeping God first. Left to cherish her loving memory are children: Two daughters, Shelley (Evans) Riviere and Leslee R. Rouse; one son: Brian (Allison) Lindsey, all of South Bend, IN; Siblings: Germaine W. Covington of Atlanta, Ga, Pearl Maxine Wesson of South Bend, IN and Albertine Barrett of Lakeland, FL; One sister-in-law Felica Wands-Williams; one brother-in-law, Sylvester (Dagmar) Wands. Eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Freddie Lee Lindsey, Parents: Sylvester and Alberta Johnson, Brother-in-Laws: Willie Williams, Uncle Donald Wands, and Clarence Wands; Two Sister-in-laws: Etta Patterson and Dolores Joyce; Mother-in-law: Etta Mae Wands. The family would like to give a thanks to Jolanda Austin for her consistent compassion and companionship with our mother; you will always hold a special place in our family.

Celebration of Life will take place 11: A.M. Saturday November 6, 2021 at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church with a viewing one-hour prior. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted with www.boydandsonfuneralhome.com where condolences may be shared.
