Bernice H. Kahlmorgan Tomkins , 84, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2021 in Memorial Hospital.  She was born on October 17, 1936 in Knox, Indiana to Christopher and Bessie (Ridgeway) Kahlmorgan.  She retired on March 1, 1990 form St. Joseph Care Center-West, where she was employed as a Medical Records Clerk for eleven years. She then worked in the Circulation Department at the South Bend Tribune for six years.  On September 4, 1954, in St. Adalbert Church, she married Richard A. Tomkins, who preceded her in death on December 31, 1978.  She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred McCoy, Sylvia Deatherage, and Fern Williams; her brother William Kahlmorgan; and her dear friend, Gina McDonald. Bernice is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Robert) Golubski and Candyce (Steven Sr.) Meredith both of South Bend, Indiana; her son, Christopher (Lisa) Tomkins of Mishawaka, Indiana; six grandchildren, Robert (Hilda) Golubski, Jr., Sarah (Joshua) Lichtenbarger, Matthew Tomkins, Steven Meredith, Jr., Allyson Tomkins and Christopher Tomkins, Jr.; and twenty one great-grandchildren, Elsa, Rosita, Tich, Gavin, Mamas, YeYa, Romio, Bella, Ava, Anastasia, Steven Lee, Alex, Olivia, Ally, Giovanni, Alila, Macy, Ava Lee, Nora, Greyson and Ozzy.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.  Bernice attended Washington High School. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and word searches.  She was proud to be a tissue donor to the Indiana Donor Network.  Memorial Contributions may be directed to  Pet Refuge or Heart to Heart Hospice.
