SOUTH BEND - Terence A. Phillips Sr. of South Bend peacefully entered into eternal rest at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, at West Bend Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a ten-month illness. On August 19, 1955, he was born to the late Reba Phillips, and William Thompson Sr., who survives, of Elkhart, IN. Terence, was a loving father, brother, uncle and friend to many.

He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Tecola Phillips, Houston, TX, DiNaia Crumbley, and one son, Terence A. Phillips Jr., both of Atlanta, GA; eight sisters, Cheryl (Sherry) Phillips, Jackie (Anthony) Phillips-Williams, Kim (Kenny) Johnson, Patricia (Michael) Henderson, Sandra Johnson, all of South Bend, Nancy Anderson, Indianapolis, IN, and Bettina Harris of Memphis, TN, Dianne Thompson, Chicago, IL; eight brothers, Michael (Phyllis) Phillips Sr., William and Kenneth Thompson, James, Brian and Jerome Phillips, Wiley (Keiaonna) Phillips Jr. and Michael Johnson, all of South Bend; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles & friends. Other survivors and special friends left to cherish his memory are Joseph (Crystal) Donaldson, Curtis Leonard & Vera, Curtis Williams, DeShawn Kirk, Mary (Happy) Cherry, and Shamika Clay.

In addition to his mother, Reba Phillips, also preceding him in death were two sisters, Regina Clark and Thomasena Thompson; one brother, Larry Phillips; maternal grandparents, Kenny & Lula Mae Taylor; paternal grandparents, Doak & Jessie Thompson.

Terence was a 1975 graduate of Washington High School, where in 1974, dominating the NIC track meet titles when he captured both dashes to be the meets only double winner in Elkhart, IN, in 1976. After graduation, he went on to attend S D Bishop State Junior College in Mobile, Alabama. Terence, in 1979, under honorable conditions, served his country in the United States Army at Ft Dix, New Jersey.

After making his excursions to Los Angeles, CA, Houston, TX, and Atlanta, GA, his trails lead him right back to his childhood home in South Bend. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, cooking, the casinos, and dancing, who was one of the smoothest persons on any dance floor. For countless years Terence was employed by the Marriott.

The family would like to acknowledge with Special "THANKS" and "APPRECIATION": The staff at The Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, Indianapolis, IN, VA Northern Indiana Health Care System, Ft. Wayne, Indiana Campus, South Bend VA Outpatient Clinic staff, Cancer Care Partners, Hematology & Oncology; Dr. Dean Park, M.D., & his staff, River Bend Cancer Services, Center for Hospice Care, and the entire staff at West Bend Nursing & Rehabilitation

Visitation services for Terence Alan Phillips Sr. will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier Street. Services celebrating his life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 7th, at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 1620 S. St. Joseph Street, South Bend 46613. Arrangements have been entrusted to ALFORD'S MORTUARY.
