Matthew Jackowiak

Matthew J. Jackowiak

Matthew J. Jackowiak, 85, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 4:00 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2022, in his home. Matt was born on December 15, 1936 in South Bend to Stanley Jackowiak Sr. and Eleanor (Pajakowski) Jackowiak and was a lifelong resident. He retired in August 2000 from Koontz Wagner Electric, where he was employed for 25 years as an Accountant. On April 4, 1959 in St. Adalbert Church, he married Mary Ann Lesniewicz, who survives. Matt and Mary Ann were married for 63 years. Matt and Mary Ann were truly a devoted, solid couple and shared unending love and support for each other every step of the way. Matt is also survived by four children, Linda (Kevin) Kloentrup of Florence, Kentucky, Lori (James) Finefrock of Fishers, Indiana, Michael (Sara) Jackowiak of Elkhart, Indiana and Lisa Jackowiak of South Bend, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Sarah (Douglas) Camm, Maggie Kloentrup, Maddi (Vincent) Hanes, Ryan Jackowiak, Kaitlyn Finefrock, Danielle Finefrock and Samuel Finefrock; one great-granddaughter, Evelyn Jane Camm; and his sister-in-law, Wanda Jackowiak of South Bend, Indiana. Matt was preceded in death by his sister Lorriane Culp; and his brother, Stanley Jackowiak, Jr.

Matt was a member of Holy Family Parish and the St. Casimir Married Men’s Club. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Matt loved celebrating the Cubs winning the World Series which he never thought would happen in his lifetime. He loved his Polish heritage, celebrating Dyngus Day and making polish sausage with his family. Matt always had a smile on his face. His family and strong Catholic faith were always his top priorities. He truly was a devoted and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and loyal friend always putting his family’s needs and wants before his own. Our hearts are broken and we will miss him greatly. Life will not be the same without him.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana where members of the St. Casimir Married Men’s Club will join with Fr. Glenn Kohrman to pray the rosary at 4:30 p.m. A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2022 in Holy Family Church.
