Sophie Kubica, 74, of Merrillville (formerly of Mishawaka) passed away October 17, 2022. Sophie was born on May 2, 1948 in Fernblick Osnabruck, Germany to the late Stanley Kubica Sr. and Aniela 'Angela' (Mazur) Kubica.

Sophie was a graduate of Washington High School Class of 1966. She completed her Dietary Management training at Indiana Vocational Technical College and retired as a dietary manager from West Woods of Niles Nursing Home.

Sophie loved cooking and was known for making great kieflies and pierogies. She enjoyed listening to polka music and was well versed in writing and speaking the Polish language. Her pastimes included playing Scrabble, volunteering, traveling, watching the Food network, and old detective and games shows.

She was proceeded in death by her brother Stanley J. Kubica Jr. and her beloved companion Lloyd Bolton.

Sophie leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Angela (Bolton) Bonds of Merrillville, 4 sisters Helen Gryfik of South Bend, Mary Ann Violette of Granger, Kathy Szklarek of Noblesville, and Christine (Andrzej) Szalajko of South Bend and 1 brother Chet Winters of Grand Rapids, MI.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 22, 2022 at 11am at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel at 7535 Taft Street Merrillville, IN 46410. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial donations or contributions be made in Sophie's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.obits.mycalumetpark.com.
