WEST CHICAGO - James Andrew Opaczewski, age 80, passed away peacefully on November 19th, 2022, surrounded by family. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Sophie (Gadacz) Opaczewski and Clement A. Opaczewski. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Evelyn Opaczewski; his two children, Gregory (Laurie) and Kristen (Richard) Stake;, two grandchildren, Emily Opaczewski and R. William Stake; his brother Ron, and sisters Joyce, Sharon and Kathy. Jim was born on August 8th, 1942, in South Bend, IN, attended Purdue University and Notre Dame College, and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from a long career at AT&T and devoted himself to serving veterans. He was very active in the American Legion Post 300 and served on the board of his local Post. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Norris-Segert Funeral Home and Cremation Services,132 Fremont St. (one block north of Washington St. and Main St.), West Chicago, IL 60185, with visitation from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and a service at 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial service Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at 10 AM at Glen Oak Cemetery in West Chicago. Contributions in Jim's memory can be made to St. Mary's Church, 140 N.
