February 28, 1942 – June 12, 2022

GRANGER-David J. Castleman, 80, passed away peacefully in his home June 12, 2022, with family by his side.

The South Bend native was born on February 28, 1942, to the late Harold E. and Helen T. (Slazewski) Castleman. He was also preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Basty.

On December 29, 1968, Dave married the love of his life, Sandra Kint, who lovingly cared for him until the end. Also left to cherish his memory are two children: Kathleen (Brad) Armour and Eric (Susan Martinez) Castleman, both of Granger; granddaughters, Kristy Basty of Stevenson Ranch, CA, and Nicole Armour of South Bend and grandson, Cameron Castleman of Bloomington; brother, Michael (Marilyn) Castleman of Elkhart; and sister, Peggy (John) Winston of South Bend.

Dave was a graduate of Washington High School (1960) and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a machinist where he was very meticulous and took great pride in his work. He was also a wonderful husband, father, and grandparent.

Dave loved sports, particularly Notre Dame and the Chicago Cubs. He could recall details of any game and would often be fanatically cheering in front of the television.

His family would like to thank the Center for Hospice Care and their exceptional care-givers for their compassion and professionalism. His children would also like to thank their mother for her dedication and endless care for their father.
