Guadalupe Garcia, 83, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. 

        Guadalupe was born on February 21, 1940, in Elsa, Texas to the late Victor and Flora (Olivares) Vega, Sr.  She moved to South Bend, Indiana when she was a teenager and graduated from Washington High School in 1959.  In September of 1961, in South Bend, she married Armando Garcia.  She worked in the laundry department at Notre Dame University and was a teacher’s aide in the bilingual department for the South Bend Community School Corporation.  In her spare time, she enjoyed going to the casino and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

        Guadalupe is survived by her husband, Armando Garcia of South Bend, her son, Raymond P. Garcia Sr. of Goshen, IN, a step daughter, Nicole Elena (Brandon) Groves of Plymouth, IN, and 5 loving grandchildren, Benjamin Cantu, Raymond P. Garcia, Jr., Marcos Armand Garcia, Justin Schock, and Shaween Marie.  She is also survived by her brothers, Paul (Dolores) Vega of Fort Worth, TX, Alberto ( Mary Lou) Vega of South Bend, IN, Flavio (Rita) Vega of Schererville, IN, Victor Vega of Mexico City, Mexico, a half-brother, Victor Vega and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Lydia Cantu.

        Guadalupe’s wishes were to be cremated.  Her family will be having a celebration of her life at a later date.  In honor of Guadalupe, donations can be made to St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 2505 W.
