EDWARD JERZAK

SOUTH BEND - Edward Jerzak Jr., 69, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2007. Ed was born on September 12, 1937, in South Bend, to Edward and Mary (Weigant) Jerzak Sr.
He graduated from Washington High School in 1956 where he earned All-Conference honors in basketball and All-Conference and All-State honors in football and track.
He coached boys basketball and girls softball at Our Lady of Hungary School as well as boys and girls basketball at Jackson Middle School. Mr. Jerzak was also elected into the Washington High School Sports Hall of Fame.
Ed retired from Ameritech and was the owner of Ed's Prairie Liquors, and was a member of the former St. Anthony Sick Benefit Society and the D.F.V. German Club.
On May 13, 1961, in South Bend, he married the former Elaine Zawierucha, who survives along with four daughters, Kim (David) Tompos of Elko, MN, Lynn (Tim) Herban and Gail (Herm) Schweiss, both of South Bend, and Sandra (Kevin) Dobosiewicz of Vandalia, MI; three sons, Edward (Paula) Jerzak III, Gary (Julie) Jerzak and Greg Jerzak, all of South Bend; nine grandchildren, Allison, Matthew, Abby, Nicole, Devin, Ashley, Danielle, Tyler and Mackenzi; five step-grandchildren, Stephanie, Zachary, Lori, Jason and Jodi; one step-great-grandchild, Madison; two sisters, Nancy (Bob) Hair of Mexico, IN, and Carol Oliver of South Bend; a brother, Robert Jerzak of Granger; and many nieces and nephews
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2007, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Our Lady of Hungary Athletic Association.
