JACK A. HAWLEY

July 12, 1938 - March 26, 2009
SOUTH BEND - Jack Albert Hawley, 70, of South Bend, died at 6:49 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009, in the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility following an illness. Mr. Hawley was born July 12, 1938, in Mishawaka, IN, to the late Harold Lee and Helen Alvena (Hansen) Hawley, and was a lifetime area resident.

On August 1, 1959, in South Bend, he married Carol S. Mossman, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Chris (Kathy) Hawley and Jeff Hawley, both of South Bend; one grandson, Brandon Hawley; one sister, Dona Smith of New Port Richey, FL; and one brother, Dick (Jean) Hawley of Snead's Ferry, NC.

Jack graduated in 1956 from Washington High School where he was a member of the swim team.

He worked in home construction and the remodeling business. In the past 30 years Jack had been an active member at First United Methodist Church where he was involved with the Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop #422, the Soup Kitchen, and the United Methodist Men at the church and district level, where he received the Torch Award for work with the church and youth. He also served on many committees in the church. Jack had a long association with Boy Scouts where he was a member of the Order of the Arrow and received the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award among others. He was also involved with Indian Guides at the YMCA. Jack was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 30th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., with Rev. Mary Hubbard of First United Methodist officiating. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call today, March 29th, in the funeral home from 2 to 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church (Soup Kitchen, Food Pantry or Boy Scout Troop #422), 333 N.
